With the ISRO System for Safe and Sustainable Space Operation and Management (IS4OM), India has given a boost to self-reliance in safeguarding its space assets.

Dr, Jitendra Singh, Minister of Science and Technology, Earth Sciences is expected to inaugurate the IS4OM on Monday, in the presence of  S Somanath, Secretary, Department of Space and Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation.

Dr Jitendra Singh said, IS4OM facility will aid India in achieving its SSA (Space Situational Awareness) goals by providing a comprehensive and timely information of the Space environment to users.

This multi-domain awareness platform will bring a prompt, accurate and efficient information on on-orbit collision, fragmentation, atmospheric re-entry risk, space based strategic information, hazardous asteroids and space weather forecast.

According to ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation), the IS40M system is designed with a holistic perspective to ensure the safety and sustainability of the space environment while gaining the advantages of sustainable use of space for national development.

In addition, as part of IS4OM, dedicated labs have also been set up for space debris mitigation and remediation, compliance verification of UN/Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee (IADC) guidelines and various R&D activities.

In December 2020, ISRO inaugurated a dedicated control centre for activities, aimed at monitoring, tracking and protecting India’s space assets.
