As the Opposition and the BJP locked horns in Lok Sabha on day 2 of the debate on the no-trust motion against the Narendra Modi government, BJP members demanded action against Rahul Gandhi for ‘indecent behaviour’.

BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje and other women members of the party alleged that the Congress leader blew a flying kiss as he walked out of the Lok Sabha after delivering his speech. “Only a misogynist man can blow a flying kiss to parliament that seats women MPs,” Union Minister Smriti Irani said, referring to Rahul.

The MPs submitted a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, demanding stringent action against Rahul for allegedly insulting dignity of women members of the House.

Irani, who was speaking soon after Rahul concluded his speech, came down heavily on the Congress leader for his “murder of India in Manipur” remark in Lok Sabha. “I condemn the behaviour that was displayed. This is the first time that someone talked about the murder of India, and Congress leaders were thumping desks,” Irani said.

Opening the debate on Wednesday, Rahul targeted Modi and the BJP for the handling of the situation in strife-torn Manipur. The Congress scion said: “They killed India in Manipur. Not just Manipur but they killed India. Their politics has not killed Manipur, but it has killed India in Manipur.”

The no-confidence motion was initiated by Congress’s Gaurav Gogoi on Tuesday. PM Modi is expected to reply to the debates on Thursday. The former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Prime Minister listens to only two people, Amit Shah and Gautam Adani, just as Ravan paid heed to only two people’s advice — Meghnad and Kumbhakaran.

“As I had said, India is a voice of the people. You killed that voice in Manipur. This means that you murdered Bharat Mata in Manipur,” Gandhi asserted amid thumping of desks by opposition leaders.

“By killing the people of Manipur you have murdered Bharat, you are not desh bhakt (patriot) but deshdrohi (traitor),” the former Congress chief said.
