The HMDA and GHMC in collaboration with the Yacht Club of Hyderabad will be launching a Waterschool to teach Sailing , Kayaking , Windsurfing , Standup padding and allied water sports at Durgam Cheruvu.
Waterschool will extend the 14 years of expertise of the Yacht Club of Hyderabad in training and producing more than a 100 state and national medals for the city to the clean waters of Durgam Cheruvu that will serve as a nursery for future Asian and Olympic champions apart from serving as a hub for all Watersports , A large part of the coaching with be undertaken by homegrown National and State Champions.
Waterschool boasts of state of the art equipment and the coaching at the Yacht Club has already led to Hyderabad’s young sailors participating in a host of Internationals and World Championships across continents.
Waterschool proposes to be a sophisticated training centre for both serious and recreational sportspersons and will serve as a nursery to teach the basics after which the sailors selected can aim for National and then Asian and Olympic participation
The Durgam Cheruvu lake is perfectly situation in the IT corridor of Hyderabad and Waterschool expects a large turn out for all sports on offer especially Sailing and Windsurfing for the younger and Kayaking and Standup Paddling for those a bit senior.
Waterschool also plans to run waterbased Corporate Leadership and Team Building and bonding programs and revive the famous Kayakathan and Hydrathon events that had taken the city by storm in the past.
Waterschool also plans to launch Life Saving certification programs over a period of time. The facility was formarlly inaugurated by Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar on Sunday and courses will be launched in the near future.
