Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar pooh-poohed the comment of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao that the latest heavy rains in the state were due to conspiracy by foreign forces. In a statement, he said such a statement from the chief minister was nothing but delusional and the people were laughing over his visit to the flood-affected areas and his comments, instead of getting reassured.
The BJP president said KCR considered himself an engineering expert, yet the pump houses of the Kaleshwaram project got drowned because of heavy rains. He said the negligence in the construction of embankments led to overflowing of lakes and ponds. “The chief minister is only calling the heavy rains a man-made conspiracy, because he is trying to cover up his flaws,” he added.
Sanjay said that payment of Rs 10,000 for flood victims was completely unreasonable as heavy rains rendered them homeless and the damage was not assessed before announcing the compensation. Besides, many flood victims who were promised the same amount during the GHMC floods in 2020 had never received them.
Also, when the state is suffering a flood-like situation rendering thousands homeless, KCR was talking to the leaders of the regional parties in various states and trying to shame the central government, Sanjay criticised.
Holding a teleconference with the district party presidents earlier in the day, Sanjay called upon party workers to go to flooded villages and help those affected, as heavy rains and floods continue to batter the state. He recalled the service and relief activities done during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Expressing concern about the problems facing the people due to floods, Kumar asked the BJP workers to engage in relief activities mainly in Bhadrachalam, Asifabad, Jagityal, Mulugu and Eturu Nagaram on a war footing.
