One thousand children belonging to the families of sanitation workers on Sunday performed in a spectacular cultural event with traditional attire in Guwahati. The colourful event titled ‘Joy of Life with the Rhythm of Equality’ at Khanapara veterinary college ground witnessed Sattriya dances performed by 500 children and Bhortal Nritya by another 500 children.

Later they collectively played Borgeet and  danced to the tune of Vande Mataram. Many women sanitation workers also performed in front of a large gathering. Organised by Valmiki Music School, run by the city-based Dr Hedgewar Memorial Trust, on the eve of Bharat Pran Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar’s death anniversary (6 December).

The event was graced by a number of dignitaries including Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Uttar Kamalabari Sattra’s Sattradhikar Janardan Devagoswami, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s Akhil Bhartiya Prachar Pramukh Sunil Ambekar, where Nrityacharya Jatin Goswami was present as a special guest.

It may be mentioned that Valmiki Music School under the leadership of Ananya Talukder trained the children belonging to sanitation workers in 20 slum areas of Guwahati. Initiated with an aim to pay tributes to architect of the Constitution of India and remind the citizens of their duty and responsibilities, the event on rejoicing life with equality was first organised last year in the city.

CM Sarma appreciated the organisers for the event on Babasaheb’s Punya-Tithi and thus encouraging the children of sanitation workers. Devagoswami pointed out that Srimanta Sankardev shaped the society with the ideology of India and he emphasized on taking the Sattriya culture to the common people. Ambekar asserted that equality in the society can be achieved by collective social initiatives only.
