Haryana’s new Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who took oath on Tuesday hours after the surprise resignation of CM Manohar Lal Khattar and his ministers, has proved his majority in the state Assembly during a special session on Wednesday.
In the Haryana assembly, which has 90 members, the BJP has 41 MLAs. The saffron party also got support of six of the seven independents as well as Gopal Kanda, the sole Haryana Lokhit Party MLA.
Saini moved the confidence motion in the House on Tuesday at 11 am to prove his government’s majority. Jannayak Janta Party has issued a whip to its MLAs to remain “absent” from the Assembly at the time of voting on the trust vote on Wednesday. But five of the JJP MLAs defied the whip and reached the Assembly but later walked out.
Following this, former CM Manohar Lal Khattar resigned as MLA. He is to be contesting in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
