Indian National Lok Dal’s Haryana unit president Nafe Singh Rathee was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Jhajjar district on Sunday evening. Rathee, a former MLA, was travelling in his SUV when the gunmen, who were in a car, attacked him in Bahadurgarh town.
An aide of Rathee, who was travelling with him, has also died while two others suffered serious injuries. The injured have been shifted to the Brahm Shakti Sanjivani hospital for treatment.
“Former MLA Nafe Singh and another person Jaikishan were brought dead. They were shot in the neck, back, and shoulder. Multiple wounds suggest there were multiple rounds of fire… Sudden major vessel damage causes heavy blood loss and eventually, heart attack,” said Dr Manish Sharma at the BSS hospital.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident. INLD leader Abhay Chautala alleged that the government failed to provide security to Rathee though there had been a threat to his life.
“The two-time MLA, who is our state unit chief, was not provided with security. In writing, representations had been made to senior police officers and state home minister that he was facing threats and should be provided with security,” he said.
Chautala also demanded the resignation of the chief minister and the home minister. The opposition Congress and Aam Aadmi Party also hit out at the Manohar Lal Khattar government over the incident. Media reports claimed that gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his close associate Kala Jathedi were suspected to be behind the attack.
