Centre orders probe against Sameer Wankhede for ‘shoddy’ probe in Aryan Khan drugs case

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has asked the government to initiate a probe against former NCB officer Sameer Wankhede for “shoddy investigation” while probing the drugs-on-cruise case in which film star Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan was arrested last year.

Wankhede is an Indian Revenue Service officer and the finance ministry is the nodal authority to take the action against him. The government has asked the competent authority to take appropriate action against Wankhede for his alleged shoddy investigation in the ‘drugs-on-cruise’ case.

The order came soon after the NCB gave a clean chit to Aryan in the case in which he was arrested and spent 22 days in jail. Officials of the NCB, which filed its chargesheet in a Mumbai court, said Aryan Khan and five others had not been named due to “lack of sufficient evidence”.

The government has also ordered action against Wankhede for allegedly providing a fake caste certificate.

“It is learnt that the government has asked the competent authority to take appropriate action against former NCB official Sameer Wankhede for his shoddy investigation into the Aryan Khan drugs haul case. The government has already taken action in the case of Sameer Wankhede’s fake caste certificate case,” NCB sources said.

Earlier, NCB chief S.N. Pradhan said: “We considered all facts found during the initial investigation and found no concrete evidence (against Aryan)”.

Aryan was arrested in the case by the NCB on October 3 last year and released from jail later that month after being granted bail. An NCB team led by Wankhede had conducted a raid on the cruise ship, after which 20 persons, including Aryan Khan, were arrested.
