The BJP has reportedly started negotiations with some opposition MLAs to save its government in Haryana that was pushed into minority, after three Independent MLAs withdrew support to the Nayab Singh Saini Government and supported the Congress.
While the opposition demanding either immediate floor test or imposition of President’s rule in the state, former Chief Minister of BJP Mohanlal Khattar was seen meeting four MLAs of Jannayak Janata Party (JPP), who had earlier withdrawn support to BJP government. This meeting is feared to be intended to bring a division among 10 JPP MLAs.
With this confidence only, Saini Government maintaining that there is no immediate threat to it and its leaders state that “the government will complete its full term”, the Opposition has stepped up the ante against the ruling party.
Earlier, former Deputy Chief Minister and JJP MLA Dushyant Chautala, in a letter, has urged Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya to summon a session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha and sought a floor test since the “incumbent government does not command a majority”.
Chautala urged the governor to conduct a floor test immediately to “reinstate stability and uphold democratic norms in Haryana”.While seeking directions to the competent authority, Chautala has said that if the government fails to call the session on the directions of the Governor, he may recommend President’s rule in the state.
On the other hand, the Congress on Thursday demanded President’s rule in the state and sought time to meet Governor Dattatreya. Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the Haryana Government should resign on moral grounds as it’s in minority and demanded President’s rule in the state.
He said JJP leadership should meet the Governor with its 10 MLAs. Hooda said the Congress delegation of 30 MLAs would also reach Chandigarh soon.
Hooda said 45 of the 88 sitting MLAs in the Haryana Assembly, including 30 MLAs of the Congress, 10 of the JJP, 3 Independent MLAs who have recently switched over to the Congress, Independent MLA from Meham Balraj Kundu and INLD MLA Abhey Chautala, were against the Saini-led government.
