J&K Police have arrested ten persons in Srinagar in connection with a conspiracy to revive the banned separatist Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and the Hurriyat Conference.

Over two dozen persons with links to JKLF and the Hurriyat Conference were detained by police after they held a meeting in a local hotel on Monday. A police spokesperson said the arrested persons “were planning to revive these organisations on the directions of Pakistan-based handlers”.

The spokesman added that the meeting was an overt attempt to start working for the revival of these moribund organisations. A case under sections 10, 13 of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act & section 121A of IPC already stands registered in Kothibagh police station in Srinagar.

“Initial investigation has also revealed that they were in touch with entities based abroad,’’ said the police. “A few of them were members of many groups that propagate secessionism like Kashmir Global Council headed by Farooq Siddiqui and Raja Muzaffer of JKLF,” he added.

Under the garb of manufactured pretext, the real agenda of the meeting that took place was discussing the strategy of revival, said the spokesperson. According to police, initial investigation has also revealed that a preliminary meeting was held by the arrested person and others on June 13.

Those arrested have been identified as Mohammad Yaseen Bhat, Mohammad Rafiq Pahloo, Shams u din Rehmani, Jahangeer Ahmad Bhat, Khurshid Ahmed Bhat, Shabir Ahmed Dar, Sajad Hussain Gul, Firdous Ahmed Shah, Parray Hassan Firdous, Sohail Ahmad Mir.
