The newly opened Ram Temple in Ayodhya on Wednesday witnessed a divine event — Surya Tilak — when sun rays fell on Ram Lalla’s idol and illuminated his forehead on the occasion of Ram Navami.
This was made possible by using a scientific mechanism involving mirrors and lenses. The Surya Tilak was performed for five minutes between 12 to 12:30 pm.
During the time when Surya Tilak was being performed, devotees were allowed to visit the temple. This was the first Ram Navami since the consecration of the Ram idol at the new temple, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 22.
The visual spectacle was created via an elaborate mechanism involving mirrors and lenses. It was meticulously planned, designed and implemented by CSIR-CBRI Roorkee in consultation with the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bangalore.
Surya Tilak was done for around 4-5 minutes when the sun rays were directly focused on the forehead of the Ram Lalla idol. “The temple administration prevented the devotees from entering the sanctum sanctorum at the time of the Surya Tilak to avoid overcrowding,” Gupta said.
While the piping and other parts are manufactured using brass material, high-quality and durable mirrors and lenses were used.
PM Modi greeted people on the occasion of Ram Navami on Wednesday and said “Ayodhya is in immense joy” and celebrating the birth anniversary of Lord Ram after the Pran Pratishtha ceremony.
In a post on X, PM Modi said, “The first Ram Navami after the Pran Pratishtha in Ayodhya is a generational milestone, weaving together centuries of devotion with a new era of hope and progress. This is a day crores of Indians waited for. Innumerable people devoted their lives to this sacred cause.”
“May the blessings of Prabhu Shri Ram always remain upon us and guide our paths towards righteousness and peace, illuminating our lives with wisdom and courage,” he said.
The PM also said, “I have full faith that the life of Maryada Purushottam Lord Shri Ram and his ideals will become a strong basis for building a developed India. His blessings will provide new energy to the resolve of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.”
