During her visit to the country, the Vice President of Global Customer Success at Udemy, Ms. Caoimhe Carlos, recently highlighted India’s leadership in AI upskilling. She noted that 2025 will be a pivotal year for Udemy in India, with plans to hire a head of customer success, expand its research and development (R&D) centre, and introduce new artificial intelligence (AI) features.
Carlos observed a significant shift in how employees engage with generative AI (GenAI), moving from technical training to practical applications that enhance productivity. She emphasized the growing demand for soft skills, such as communication and critical thinking, particularly among the Gen Z workforce, who may have missed opportunities to develop these skills during the pandemic.
She described India as a unique Udemy market, with exceptional learning adoption rates and a user base of 16 million as of September 30, 2024. The country ranks first in usage and second in overall size for Udemy globally.
The platform connects learners with 75,000 instructors and has achieved nearly 1 billion course enrolments. As part of its strategy, Udemy’s R&D centre in Chennai will focus on engineering innovations to enhance platform functionality.
Looking ahead, the company plans to develop its AI capabilities with the launch of an AI learning assistant and AI skills mapping features, while also emphasizing the importance of assessment tools.
