Since the program’s commencement, Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA) has trained almost 52.4 million applicants in digital literacy for rural areas. In order to increase digital literacy in rural India, the Union Cabinet authorised the PMGDISHA programme in February 2017.

A target of 60 million rural households (one person per home) has been established nationwide. Approximately 61.5 million applicants have enrolled for the programme nationwide so far, of whom 38.9 million have received certification.

In a written response to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Mr. Rajeev Chandrasekhar stated that the objectives are expected to be met throughout the approved length of the plan, which is up to March 31, 2023.

The Common Service Centers (CSCs) or Training Centers, which include a minimum of one teaching staff and three to five computers, have been used by the government to provide training.

According to the minister, it has authorised more than 413,000 training centres with a total budgetary investment for the programme of Rs. 2,351.38 crore (US$ 294.58 million). The programme, according to the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), would assist India reach its objective of having a digital economy of US$ 1 trillion by 2025.
