Zero- tolerance approach against terrorism, asserts Amit Shah

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government will continue to adopt a zero- tolerance approach against terrorism, asserts Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Conducting a review on the security situation in Jammu and Kahsmir in the wake of the recent terror attack, he stressed the need to  further strengthening the local intelligence network.

While reviewing the functioning of the security grid and overall security scenario of the Union Terrirtory, Shah instructed to strengthen the counter-terrorism operations and need for complete elimination of terror eco-system. He also advised the security agencies for appropriate deployment in vulnerable areas. 

The home minister also reviewed the area domination plan of security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir to eliminate the threat of terrorism, the MHA statement said. Shah stressed that all due procedures should be adopted while dealing with counter- terror operations. appreciated the efforts of the security agencies and administration of the Union Territory for significant decline in terror related incidents, infiltration and improvement in law and order situation.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary, Chief of Army Staff, Director (IB), Heads of CAPFs, and Chief Secretary and DGP of Jammu and Kashmir attended the meeting held in New Delhi. 

Last month, four soldiers lost their lives and two others were injured after terrorists ambushed two Army vehicles at Thanamandi in Dera Ki Gali of Poonch district. After the incident, several civilians were rounded up for questioning, and three of them reportedly died in Army custody, sparking public outrage. 

Jammu and Kashmir DGP R.R. Swain in his year-end press briefing had admitted that that foreign terrorists were receiving support from Indian territory, while acknowledging the security concerns in the region.
