Putting an end to speculations over the constituency to be contested by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the BJP announced today that he will contest the upcoming state Assembly elections from Gorakhpur City. Earlier, it was said he may contest from Ayodhya or Madhura so as to mitigate the emotional Hindutva agenda during the polls.

However, by removing him from his home constituency, the BJP is giving a clear indication that it is going to the people on the basis of the performance of five-year governance of Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in the state.

From here, he was elected to Lok Sabha five consecutive terms. After choosing him as the party’s chief minister nominee in 2017 he was elected to the state legislative council. Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya will contest polls from Sirathu in Prayagraj district.

The BJP announced names of 107 candidates for the seats going to the polls in the first two phases. The list was released by the BJP’s Uttar Pradesh in-charge and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan along with the party general secretary Arun Singh during a press conference at the party’s headquarters.

“The BJP has provided welfare and sensitive governance in Uttar Pradesh in the last five years. We are confident that the people of UP will again bless us in this great festival of 2022 with the same clarity,” the BJP tweeted quoting Pradhan.

Elections for the 403-member Uttar Pradesh assembly is scheduled to be held in seven phases starting from February 10.
