Assuming that the security breach during Prime Minister Narendar Modi’s recent Punjab visit was deliberate by the Congress government in the state, Union Minister Smriti Irani questioned who from the Congress party benefited from the PM’s security breach.

Alleging that the security measures were ‘deliberately breached’ due to the ‘active connivance of the Congress-led Govt in Punjab’, she asked who in Congress sought to benefit from the breach of PM’s security?

Lamenting that the Congress party was ‘celebrating’ when the Prime Minister’s security was breached on January 5, she alleged that state police was made a silent spectator’ by the influential persons in the state government.

The Union Minister also alleged that the state police functionaries in the state were directed and convinced to breach the security of the Prime Minister and bring him harm.“Such is the breakdown of law and  order in Punjab that the DGP, Police claims he’s incapable of providing security support to the PMO and security details,” she added.

Stating that it was a conspiracy to bring harm to PM Modi, Irani said, “So many people reaching there is not just a coincidence, it’s a conspiracy. Who is responsible for the lapse? Punjab police remained the mute spectator, no security protocol followed.”

With regard to Modi’s convoy being halted for almost 20 minutes on a flyover in Ferozepur, she said that protestors were `brought’ and hurdles were `planted’ by some vested interested groups.
Irani took serious exception to the Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi for ‘briefing’ Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on PM Narendra Modi’s security breach. She asked  why a ‘private citizen’ was an interested party in PM Modi’s security breach.

“Why did the Punjab CM brief a private citizen (Priyanka Gandhi Vadra) on the PM’s security protocol and the breach? Why is the private citizen, who is a part of the Gandhi family, an interested party?” Irani asked.

The Union Minister also wondered that after Prime Minister had his security breached, Congress leaders were seen erupted with joy, asking him how his Josh was!. However, she said that PM Modi was magnanimous as ever, on his way back simply communicated `Zinda  laut raha hoon(I am returning alive).

The acerbic statements from Smriti Irani came after Punjab Deputy CM Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa admitted to a major security lapse, saying that an alternate route should have been planned earlier but was not done.
