Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a six-kilometre-long roadshow in Varanasi on Monday evening. He is set to file his nomination papers from this Lok Sabha seat on Tuesday. Modi garlanded a statue of educationist and social reformer Madan Mohan Malviya at the Malviya Chauraha in the Lanka area here before beginning the roadshow.

He was accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. According to sources in the BJP, Modi will also take a dip in the Ganga. The prime minister is seeking a third consecutive term from the seat that will go to polls on June 1 in the seventh and last phase of the Lok Sabha election.

A large number of women in saffron attire walked ahead of the vehicle carrying Modi. The group represented ‘matrashakti’. BJP office bearers also said that people from different communities, including Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Maheshwari, Marwari, Tamil and Punjabi, welcomed Modi at 100 points in 11 zones during the roadshow. The prime minister was welcomed with the blowing of conches and beats of ‘dhols’ and ‘damrus’ here.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi gears up to file his nomination for a third consecutive term from the Varanasi parliamentary constituency on Tuesday, the city of Kashi is buzzing with excitement for his nomination eve roadshow.

The roadshow, set to kick off a day before his nomination filing, promises a vibrant display of cultural richness, featuring shehnai tunes, the resonance of conch shells (shankhnaad), rhythmic drum beats (damru), and the chanting of mantras. The district administration has enforced stringent security measures to ensure a smooth and safe event.

The five-kilometer-long roadshow offers glimpses of cultural performances representing the rich heritage of Varanasi and Uttar Pradesh. Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan’s family members will greet PM Modi with the enchanting tunes of the Shehnai near Madanpura. The roadshow culminates with PM Modi offering prayers at the revered Kashi Vishwanath temple.
