PM Modi appreciates Indian athletes’ performance at Paris Olympics 2024

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised India’s performance in the Paris Olympics 2024 on Sunday. India wrapped its campaign at the 33rd Summer Games in Paris with six medals, its join second-best performance in Olympics history. 

PM Modi said that athletes made India proud with their performances in Paris and also wished them the best for their future endeavours. 

“As the Paris Olympics conclude, I appreciate the efforts of the entire Indian contingent through the games,” PM Modi wrote in his X post. “All the athletes have given their best and every Indian is proud of them. Wishing our sporting heroes the best for their upcoming endeavours.”

Indian Primer Minister showed remarkable support to Indian athletes and encouraged them by hosting team India at his home before the tournament. He called all Indian medal winners to congratulate them personally and appreciated their efforts to make India proud.

Meanwhile, India’s challenge ended on Saturday after the young wrestler Reetika Hooda lost in the women’s 76kg quarter-final bout. India finished their campaign without a gold but impressed everyone with six medals, including a silver in athletics. 

The 22-year-old Manu Bhaker opened India’s medal account with a bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event on July 28. She created history with another bronze with Sarabjot Singh in the mixed 10m air pistol team event and missed out on a record third medal after finishing fourth in the 25m air shooting.

Swapnil Kusale produced India’s third medal with a bronze in the men’s 50 m rifle three positions event. India witnessed some heartbreaks and upsets with no medals for the next seven days but finished the campaign on a high note.

The men’s hockey team defeated Spain to win a bronze and the golden boy Neeraj Chopra clinched a silver in the men’s javelin throw event. The 21-year-old Aman Sehrawat was the last Indian to win a medal for India as he defeated Puerto Rico’s Darian Cruz in the men’s 57kg bronze medal match to become the youngest Indian Olympic medalist.
