The G-20 tourism working group conference was held in Srinagar, where participants prepared the final draft of the national strategy on film tourism, the roadmap for the meeting in Goa, and the G-20 Tourism Minister’s proclamation.
The G-20’s chief coordinator, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, stated that the gathering in Srinagar has got an overwhelming reaction from the member countries whose delegations are present in the meeting. He added that in comparison to past tourism meetings held in Gujarat and Siliguri, more delegates are present at this gathering. However, some countries are unable to attend due to logistical issues.
According to officials, Singapore will have the most delegates attending the meeting, with considerable participation from the United States and the United Kingdom.
During the meeting, a side event on ‘Film Tourism for Economic Growth and Cultural Preservation’ will be held, during which a draft National Strategy on Film Tourism will be produced and made public for suggestions and advice. Another side event on ‘Ecotourism as a vehicle to achieving Sustainable Development Goals’ is planned to help expedite efforts towards sustainable development goals (SDGs).
The J&K administration has also organised an art and craft bazaar, which will include local handicrafts and the work of artisans, as well as ‘DIY’ activities for the delegates. According to the tourism secretary, Arvind Singh, “This meeting in Srinagar presents a unique opportunity to highlight the region’s tourism potential and cultural richness”.
The J&K administration has undertaken extensive security plans to safeguard the safety of the delegates’ visit, and military troops will be positioned on all important roadways until the summit concludes on May 24.
