Delhi is all set to welcome the global leaders ahead of the G20 summit to be held in the national capital on Saturday and Sunday. In the wake of the summit, security is beefed up with over 40,000 police personnel on duty solely for G20.
Delhi L-G V. K. Saxena took stock of the preparations and cleanliness of the city on Thursday ahead of the global leaders visit. PM Modi ahead of the summit said that India’s presidency strives to bridge divides, and break barriers. “Indian presidency will reach the last mile and would leave no one behind,” Modi said in his editorial.
Security at the metro stations are also strengthened. Meanwhile, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in its statement on Wednesday said that boarding and deboarding of passengers will not be allowed at Supreme Court metro station on the two days of the summit. The metro services will start from 4 am on all lines during the summit days, it added.
Except for the SC metro station, which is closest to the Pragati Maidan–venue of the summit, all other stations will remain open for the general public. The Gurgaon Traffic Police have said traffic towards IGI airport will be affected from 12 am as well.
Inorder to facilitate the movement of the VVIP delegations, entry and exit at some stations will be restricted. Even parking facilities at the metro stations will be closed till Monday.
Showcasing India’s rich cultural heritage, numerous arrangements are made by the officials. The heads of State and other global leaders will be served on silver and gold-plated utensils.
Officials are working double shifts to ensure the safety of people in the capital. Flag marches, enhanced patrolling and picket checking are among the measures taken by the Delhi Police to maintain law and order in the national capital for the G20 Summit.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has installed an additional automatic weather station near Pragati Maidan inorder to provide specialised and real-time weather forecasts.
Weather updates and forecasts will be accessible through the webpage mausam.imd.gov.in/g20 on IMD website. Real-time data from the weather station installed near the G20 venue will be provided on the webpage. Information on air temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction and rainfall will be provided.
The data will be updated at 15-minute intervals, ensuring that users have the most accurate and up-to-date weather information at their fingertips, the IMD said.
The mega event is slated to be held from September 9-10 at Bharat Mandapam, the newly-built international convention and exhibition centre.
