CBI summons Kejriwal for questioning

The CBI has summoned Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal for questioning in the excise policy scam. The Delhi CM has been asked to appear before the investigating agency on Sunday (April 16).

The summons to Kejriwal comes on a day when he said there are several anti-national forces in the county that do not want the country to progress, and such people sent Manish Sisodia to jail. “Those who sent Sisodia to jail are the enemies of the country,” he claimed.

Reacting to the CBI summons to the Delhi CM, AAP leader Sanjay Singh, in a tweet, said, “There will definitely be an end to tyranny.” The probe agency has made several arrests, former Delhi deputy chief minister and AAP leader Manish Sisodia, in connection with the alleged scam.

It is alleged that the Delhi excise policy for 2021-22 to grant licences to liquor traders favoured certain dealers who had allegedly paid bribes for it. There were also allegations of irregularities, including modifications made to the policy, extending undue favours to the licensees, waiver/reduction in licence fee, and extension of L-1 license without approval. “…illegal gains on the count of these acts were diverted to concerned public servants by private parties by making false entries in their books of accounts,” a CBI spokesperson had said after FIR filed on August 17, 2022.

The BJP has been claiming that Kejriwal was the brain behind the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy. The AAP had dismissed the charges made by the saffron party, calling it vendetta politics.
