The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has won three central panel posts including President, Secretary and Joint Secretary, while the NSUI has won the post of Vice-President in the elections for Delhi University Students Union (DUSU). The counting of votes for four central panel posts was completed on Friday.
DUSU elections were held after a gap of three years for the four posts of Central Panel President, Vice President, Secretary and Joint Secretary. A total of 24 candidates from various student union groups including Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), All India Students Association (AISA), Students Federation of India (SFI) and National Students Union of India (NSUI) are in the fray. DUSU election results are expected to be declared soon.
Tushar Dedha of the ABVP won the post of DUSU president, defeating NSUI’s Hitesh Gulia by a margin of 3,115 votes. Dedha got 23,460 votes and Gulia 20,345.
NSUI’s Abhi Dahiya bagged the post of vice-president. Dahiya received 22,331 votes and defeated ABVP’s Sushant Dhankar by a margin of 1,829 votes.
ABVP’s Aparajita and Sachin Baisla won the posts of secretary and joint secretary, respectively. While Aparajita defeated NSUI’s Yakshana Sharma by a margin of 12,937 votes, Baisla defeated the NSUI’s Shubham Kumar Chaudhary by a margin of 9,995 votes.
The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, congratulated ABVP for winning the DUSU students’ union election 2023.Shah said that ABVP’s victory is an indication of the younger generation believing in the ideology of putting “national interest first”.
“I have full confidence that the workers of the Council will continue to work with determination to keep the ideals of Swami Vivekananda and the spirit of nationalism alive among the youth,” Shah tweeted.
Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also congratulated ABVP. He tweeted, “ABVP’s success indicates that the youth of the country are committed towards building a strong and developed India. Congratulations again to the student council workers.”
BJP National President JP Nadda said that ABVP is inspired by the ideals of Swami Vivekananda. “This triumph shows the ubiquitous acceptance of the ideology of ‘nation first’ among our young generation, who will shape our nation’s tomorrow,” Nadda tweeted.
