15 Opposition Members of Parliament of which 14 from Lok Sabha and 1 from Rajya Sabha, were suspended from the house for the rest of winter session for “unruly conduct”. Opposition MPs protested in both houses of Parliament on Thursday demanding the union government’s explanation on Wednesday’s Parliament security breach.

Five Congress Lok Sabha MPs- T.N. Prathapan, Hibi Eden, S. Jothimani, Ramya Haridas and Dean Kuriakose have been suspended for the rest of the session. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi moved the motion for suspension of the Congress MPs.

The minister later moved resolution to suspend Opposition MPs – Benny Behanan, V.K. Sreekandan, Mohammad Jawed, P.R. Natarajan, Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, K. Subrahmanyam, S.R. Parthiban, S. Venkatesan and Manickam Tagore as well from Lok Sabha for the rest of the session for “unruly conduct”

Addressing the House, Joshi said, “We all agree that the unfortunate incident which occurred yesterday was a serious incident concerning the safety and the security of honourable members of parliament”.

The minister informed the House that the Speaker has written a letter to the Home Secretary for a high-level inquiry and the probe has already begun. Soon after the security breach on Wednesday, Birla had ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident.

The inquiry committee, headed by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Director General Anish Dayal Singh, along with members from other security agencies and experts, will find out the lapse in the security of Parliament and recommend action, an MHA spokesperson said.

In the morning, Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien was suspended for the rest of the session for his ‘unruly conduct’ while protesting demanding the suspension of business of the House and discussion of lapse in Parliament’s security.

Rajya Sabha was adjourned in the afternoon as well after Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar noted that a suspended member continued to be present in the House. “It is most unfortunate that suspended member Derek O’Brien continues to be present in the House. His conduct has handicapped the House from transacting business,” Dhankhar said.
