Another major encounter took place in Chhattisgarh ahead of the Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday. In the Maoist-dominated area around Matt police station in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, about 29 Maoists, including one leader named Shankar Rao, were reportedly killed. Election Commission of India on Tuesday imposed a ban on Congress leader Randeep Surjewala from campaigning for 48 hours over his remarks on Hema Malini. The ECI action comes days after the Commission issued a show-cause notice to Surjewala for his alleged ‘undignified’ comments against BJP MP Hema Malini. Nine accused, including YSRCP MLC Thota Trimurthulu were sentenced to 18 months imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2 lakh. The Mumbai police said it has arrested two persons suspected to be involved in the shooting outside actor Salman Khan’s Bandra residence. The arrests were made on Tuesday from Bhuj in Gujarat. According to the Crime Branch Sources, the names of the two arrested accused are Vicky Gupta (24) and Sagar Pal (21). “Both the accused shooters are from Bihar’s West Champaran. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday dismissed allegations that the government was misusing the central probe agencies to target its political opponents.
