Amid the scorching heatwaves, the Ministry of External Affairs on Friday confirmed the deaths of Indian nationals who were on the Hajj yatra in Saudi Arabia. MEA spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, during a weekly press briefing, said at least 98 Indians died during the hajj pilgrim. Digital lending, an industry body has reported a 49% surge in disbursements by its 37 member entities, reaching US$ 17.53 billion (Rs.1.46 lakh crore) in the financial year 2023-24. The Fintech Association for Consumer Empowerment (FACE) stated that the number of loans disbursed grew by 35% to over 10 crore borrowings in FY24. In a huge relief to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, a court here on Thursday granted him bail in a money laundering case stemming from the alleged excise scam. Special Judge Niyay Bindu also declined the Enforcement Directorate’s prayer to keep in abeyance the bail order for 48 hours to allow the central agency to appeal against it in a superior court. The Patna High Court has invalidated Bihar government laws that aimed to increase reservations for SC, ST, EBC, and other backward classes to 65% in educational institutions and government jobs. India’s seafood exports reached an all-time high in volume during FY24, overcoming numerous challenges in key export markets. The country exported 17,81,602 MT of seafood valued at Rs. 60,523.89 crore (US$ 7.26 billion). Frozen shrimp remained the major export item in quantity and value, with the USA and China being the largest importers of Indian seafood. During FY24, export volumes improved by 2.67%.
