The Centre on Thursday formed a committee for ‘One Nation, One Election’ under the leadership of former president Ramnath Kovind. India’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew by a whopping 7.8 per cent in the April-June quarter of this financial year. GDP, the total value of the goods and services produced by a country in a particular period, had grown 13.1 per cent in the corresponding period last year, while the growth for the whole of last financial year was at 7.2 per cent. The annual Amarnath Yatra concluded on Thursday with more than 4.4 lakh pilgrims offering prayers at the cave shrine in south Kashmir. The 62-day-long yatra had commenced on July 1 through the Baltal and Pahalgam routes. According to officials, a total of 4,45,338 devotees paid obeisance to the naturally formed ice ‘Shivling’ during the pilgrimage. They said 48 people, including pilgrims and service providers, died during the course of the yatra this year and 62 suffered injuries. The Pragyan rover of Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) moon mission Chandrayaan-3 confirmed the presence of Sulfur (S) in the lunar surface near the south pole, the space agency said on Tuesday.
