As violence between tribals and the majority Meitei community in Manipur spread to capital Imphal, the state government on Thursday issued a ‘shoot at sight’ order in “extreme cases”. The order signed by the Governor was issued under provisions of the criminal procedure code 1973. Asia-Pacific Forum Environmental Journalists (APFEJ) sincerely condoles the untimely demise of senior Bangladeshi journalist and green campaigner Quamrul Islam Chowdhury, who breathed his last at 8.30 pm on 2 May 2023 in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment for some weeks.
