Allu Arjun wins best actor award for ‘Pushpa: The Rise’

Tollywood actor Allu Arjun bagged the best actor award for the film Pushpa: The Rise at the 69th annual National Film Awards for the year 2021. Alia Bhatt won the award for the best actress for the movie Gangubai Kathiawadi. She shares the award with the Mimi actress Kriti Sanon.

R Madhavan’s Rocketry: The Nambi Effect won the award for the best feature film award. This is the first time a Tollywood actor won Best Actor Award at National Film Award.

The team of ‘Pushpa’ including director Sukumar, and Allu Arjun’s family celebrated the win together. Mythri Movie Makers, the production house, shared a video, in which Sukumar can be seen hugging Allu Arjun.

Mythri Movie Makers shared a video on social media of Sukumar giving a tight hug to Allu Arjun. Along with the post, the caption read, “Maverick director @aryasukku and our producers #NaveenYerneni garu and #RaviShankar garu shower their happiness and love on Icon Star @alluarjun for becoming THE FIRST ACTOR FROM TFI to win the BEST ACTOR at the National Awards. #Pushpa #ThaggedheLe”.

The awards, which honor the best films and performers of the year, were announced during a press conference by the jury at the National Media Center in New Delhi. As many as 280 films across 28 languages were in competition for various awards.

Kadaisi Vivasayi won the award for the best Tamil movie, Uppena won the award for the best Telugu movie, 777 Charlie was the best Kannada movie, and Home has been adjudged as the best Malayalam movie.

Pallavi Joshi and Pankaj Tripathi won the award for the best supporting actor for the The Kashmir Files and Mimi respectively. RRR won several awards in the technical category, including action direction, choreography, and special effects. Sardar Udham was another winner, including in the best Hindi film category. Nayattu won the award for the best screenplay and Gangubai Kathiawadi won the award for the best dialogues.

South Indian films had a major presence at the awards this year. Some of the prominent films that were in contention for the awards included The Great Indian Kitchen, Jai Bhim, Minnal Murali, Thalaivii, and Nayattu. SS Rajamouli’s RRR was also a major contender across various categories. Bollywood movies that were in contention included Sardar Udham, 83, Gangubai Kathiawadi and Shershaah.
