Virat Kohli recorded his 29th Test hundred as India started positively on Day 2 of the second Test against West Indies on Friday. The star batter resumed his innings from 87* and reached the 100-run mark by smashing four off Shannon Gabriel in the 91st over to celebrate his remarkable 76th international century.

India resumed Day 2’s play from 288/4 in 84 overs with Kohli and Jadeja in the middle. Both players started the day on a positive note. Kohli took the Windies pacers with a positive-looking stroke play.

He got to the century with a four off Shannon Gabriel. However, when many thought, the Indian star would convert his three-figure mark into a big one, he was dismissed run-out for 121 by Alzarri Joseph.

Kohli’s wait for an overseas hundred finally came to an end as he raised his bat after reaching the three figure-mark in the Caribbean. The Indian stalwart’s last overseas ton in the longest format came in December 2018 in Perth against Australia. He had scored 123 in the second Test of the four-match Border Gavaskar series.

The 34-year-old became the tenth player in history to feature in 500 International matches. He made complete merry of the occasion with a thumping century to lead a special tally of most tons after 500 games. This was Virat’s 76th ton and everyone including Sachin Tendulkar  stood behind him in the standings.

India started Day 1 with skipper Rohit Sharma  and youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal adding fifties but lost four successive wickets in the second session.  But after some early struggles, Kohli revived India’s fightback in the third session.

He quickly changed the gear to scorch runs in the final 20 overs of Day 1. He and Jadeja added 106* runs for the fifth wicket and resumed Day 2 with a similar mind-set.
