The AI and machine learning-based face authentication solution created in-house by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is presently employed by 47 entities, including state government offices, federal government ministries, and several banks.
Among its various applications, it is used to register beneficiaries under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, to authenticate beneficiaries under the PM Kisan scheme, and to generate digital life certificates at home by retirees. It’s being used to track employee attendance at various government agencies and to open bank accounts at a few major banks through its business correspondents./
The government of Andhra Pradesh is implementing Aadhaar-based facial authentication for the Jagananna Vidya Deevena Scheme for fee reimbursement to qualifying higher education students and the EBC Nestham Scheme for welfare distribution to women from economically backward segments.
Face authentication has benefits such as ease of use and speedier authentication, and it is chosen as a supplementary authentication modality alongside fingerprint and OTP authentications. The UIDAI also completed 14.86 million Aadhaar upgrades in May in response to requests from people.
The Aadhaar e-KYC service continues to play an important role in the banking and non-banking financial services industries by delivering a more transparent and better consumer experience and facilitating business transactions. In May alone, there were over 254 million e-KYC transactions. By the end of May 2023, the total number of Aadhaar e-KYC transactions would have surpassed 15.2 billion.
