Krishnapatnam Port records Highest-ever “Coal Loading”

Adani Krishnapatnam Port Private Siding Ltd. of Vijayawada Division, South Central Railway achieved record Coal Loading of 12.95 Million Tonnes by Rail as on March 18. This is the highest ever Coal volume dealt in an Financial year, since its inception, surpassing the previous benchmark of 12.94 Million Tonnes during the year 2014-15 corresponding period.

During the current year the Port has loaded 17.40 Million tones of commodities, with coal occupying majority share of 75 % share in total loading and revenue.   Krishnapatnam Port commenced its operation in November, 2009 and remains as the major contributor to the Vijayawada Division’s share in Freight loading and Revenue.

Coal & Fertilizers are the major commodities dealt at this Port. The freight earnings of Port also reached to a new height of Rs. 1940.23 Cr, which is 110 % more than previous year (2021-22) revenue of Rs. 923.61 cr.

The exclusive freight earnings of Krishnapatnam Port is likely to cross the mark of Rs. 2000 Crores, with left over 13 days in the financial year,s 2022-23. Total 4575 rakes were dealt at Krishnapatnam Port in the current year compared to 2449 rakes in previous year.

The growth rebound in freight loading is seen across the freight segment, with all commodities witnessing higher loading levels during the current financial year compared to the same period in the last financial year.

The commodity-wise loading in the financial year includes: 12.95 MTs of Coal (75%), 2 MTs of Limestone (9%), 1.4 MTs of Fertilizers (8%) and 1 MTs of other commodities (8%). The commodity wise percentage increase in loading, compared to previous year is as follows; Coal-148%, Fertilizer-12.62%, Gypsum-30%, and limestone-18%,  

The Division has been taking several proactive steps to attract new commodities towards rail transportation, while also strengthening the existing freight basket. While the terminal handling the freight movement are being continuously improved, the movement of the freight trains are also being closely monitored so as to ensure timely delivery of the goods.
