As per the data by the aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the domestic air traffic continued to rise as passengers carried by the domestic airlines during the period of January-December 2022 were 12.32 crores as compared to 8.38 crores in the corresponding period of the previous year.
An annual growth of 47.05% was registered and monthly growth of 13.69% was recorded. Around 1.27 crore passengers were carried out by domestic airlines during December 2022.
The report stated that the passenger load factor or occupancy of the airlines also remained on the higher side in the range of 80-90%. The newly launched Akasa Air marked an occupancy of 83.8% during December.
The highest occupancy of 92.7% in December 2022 was recorded by Spicejet, which was followed by GoFirst, Air India, and Indigo with a passenger load factor of 92.6%, 89.3%, and 87.5, respectively.
India’s major airports have witnessed a higher number of passengers in the last couple of weeks. Domestic air traffic in the country has already crossed the mark of four lakh passengers per day and during weekends it generally reaches more than four lakhs.
