According to RBI statistics, bank credit growth surged to 14.2% in the quarter ending June 2022, up from 6% in the same period the previous year. From January-March 2022, bank credit had expanded by 10.8%. During the last five quarters, aggregate deposit growth (year on year) has maintained in the 9.5 – 10.2% range.

Metropolitan branches continue to account for more than half of bank deposits, and their percentage has climbed slightly in the last year. Over the last three years, the share of current account and savings account (CASA) deposits in total deposits has increased (42% in June 2020, 43.8% in June 2021 and 44.5% in June 2022).

According to the statistics, credit growth has recently outpaced deposit growth, resulting in an increase in the credit-deposit (C-D) ratio. In June 2022, the C-D ratio was 73.5% at the national level (70.5% a year before) and 86.2% for bank metropolitan branches (84.3% a year ago).
