Renewed push for agro export promotion to achieve USD 23.56 billion target

APEDA, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s export promotion council for agricultural products, has developed an outreach strategy to achieve the export target of US$ 23.56 billion for the fiscal year 2022-23. Overall 300 events will be organised under the plan this year to boost exports.

Given that countries use sanitary and phytosanitary measures as a technical barrier to trade, posing a major challenge in the export of food products, particularly in developed countries, APEDA intends to raise awareness among food export stakeholders by highlighting the impact on human life via various online platforms, including social media platforms.

According to the proposed outreach strategy, it is intended to establish a strong and consistent connection with exporters, farmers, Agriprenures, food processors, logistics providers, foreign exchange management companies, and others through various mainstream publications and electronic channels, as well as prominent social media platforms, by highlighting a list of potential products with high export potential.

Due to the therapeutic and health benefits of Geographical Indication (GI) tagged products, India has a high potential for exporting them; orientation programmes for GI products have been planned in the North Eastern Region (NER).

There are over 140 GI-registered agricultural products in India, with 123 of those being APEDA scheduled products. Given India’s biodiversity, it has been planned to hold a series of national and international exhibitions and workshops to promote the export of GI products around the world by bringing universities, organisations, NGOs, and other knowledge partners on board as national and international knowledge partners.
