BJP Telangana President and MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar accused that Chief Minister KCR had indulged in massive corruption in the name of providing 24-hour free power supply to agriculture sector, thereby pushing the state into bankruptcy.
“The state government is due to clear arrears to the extent of Rs 60,000 crore to Distribution companies (Discoms) and to overcome this burden, he has increased power tariffs to the extent of Rs 6,000 crore. Why is he not clearing the arrears of Rs 17,000 crore due to be paid by the state government offices? Why is not recovering dues of Rs 1,000 crore towards power bills from the old city of Hyderabad?” he asked.
Sanjay said while it would cost only Rs 3 per unit of electricity in the open market, the TRS government was robbing public money by charging Rs 6 per unit. “In order to avoid this blatant looting, the Centre has decided to supply coal to the states as per their requirements,” he explained.
He also alleged that KCR is misleading the people by saying that the increased electricity charges were because of the Centre’s decision to import coal from abroad. “It is a blatant lie that the Centre is forcing the state to purchase coal from Adani coal mines abroad. If Telangana Transco CMD has any evidence, he should produce the same before public,” he said.
He said the demand for power in the post-Coronavirus period had gone up to 2.10 lakh megawatts. “In order to overcome the crisis, the Centre has decided to import only 10 percent of coal from abroad. It would cause a burden of only five paise to 10 paise per unit on the state. Moreover, import of coal is not a new phenomenon; it has been happening for years. But KCR is trying to magnify the issue and blame the Centre,” he alleged.
He pointed out that the chief minister was drawing huge quantity of power for his farm house by installing a separate sub-station. This power can be supplied to at least 40 villages free of cost, he said.
Sanjay also alleged that the construction of Bhadradri power plant was a big scandal. He pointed out that India Bulls had already established that the power plant was not a viable project but KCR had brought in his benamis to make thousands of crores of rupees in the form of commissions.
“Similar power plant is now being talked about at Yadadri. The government must clarify why rusted machines worth thousands of crores of rupees are used in the power plant,” he demanded.
