The BJP accused that the Samajwadi Party had links with the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts and also alleted it of protecting terrorists. These blow-up allegations were made by the union minister Anurag Thakur, particularly on the eve of the crucial third phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.
Thakur leveled a serious allegations stating that one of the masterminds of the blasts is the son of a Samajwadi Party leader. It may be recalled that the trial court awarded death sentence to 38 convicts in the case, which had claimed 56 lives and left over 200 injured. 11 more were sentenced to life. For the first time a court awarded death penalty to such a large number of persons in a single case.
Accordin to the union minister, one of the masterminds is Mohammed Saif, the son of Shahbaad Ahmed who is a Samajwadi Party leader. Accusing the Samajwadi Party of doing appeasement politics, he alleged that goons and terrorists had become stronger during the SP regime. In this regard, Thakur claimed that in the last five years, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had worked to eliminate goons and mafias in Uttar Pradesh.
Thakur also recalled that in 2012, in Samajwadi Party’s manifesto before the UP election, it was written that they will roll back the terrorism charges levelled against the Muslim youths. At that time, Samajwadi Party was the first national political party that promised in a manifesto that terror charges on the Muslim youths would be withdrawn, he added.
