Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked the Congress in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, saying the grand old party’s thoughts have become ‘outdated’. The PM accused Congress of creating narratives to split the country by trying to create a north-south divide. Congress which ceded large chunks of country’s land to the enemy is now giving sermons to us on internal security, he added.
Modi said the Congress does not have guarantee of its leaders and policies but is questioning Modi’s guarantees. He added that Congress was aware of problems facing the country but did nothing to resolve them.
“We have come out from a difficult time, brought country out of its problems,” said the Prime Minister, adding that the Congress remained inspired by the British and continued symbols of slavery for decades.
Congress gave such narratives that those following Indian traditions were looked down upon, he alleged, claiming that the Congress strangled democracy for power, dismissed democratically elected governments.
The PM also claimed that the Congress has been against Dalits, backwards and tribals. Citing Jawaharlal Nehru’s letter to chief ministers, Modi said the first PM was against reservation of any kind
He pointed out that the SCs, Sts and OBCs got their rights in Jammu and Kashmir only after the abrogation of Article 370. B.R. Ambedkar got Bharat Ratna only when a government with BJP support was formed at Centre, said Modi.
“Indian economy was in ‘Fragile-Five’ during Congress rule. In our 10 years, India is among top 5 economies of world,” said the Prime Minister. “’Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ is not a slogan, but ‘Modi’s Guarantee’,” said Modi while addressing the upper house.
“I was born in independent India, my views are independent, my dreams are also independent,” he added. The PM accused the Congress of destroying PSUs like MTNL, BSNL, HAL and Air India, saying the party can’t hide from its 10-year of ‘misrule’.
“The Opposition spread rumours about LIC, but today its shares are trading at record high price. Investor confidence in PSUs is increasing. The number of PSUs has increased with profits rising to Rs 2.5 lakh crore,” said Modi. In a subtle dig at Rahul Gandhi, Modi said the Congress tried to make their ‘Yuvraj’ a startup, but he is non-starter.
