Congress leader A. Revanth Reddy was sworn in as chief minister of Telangana on Thursday, at a grand event held at LB Stadium in Hyderabad.
Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Party Chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, Karnataka CM Siddaramiah, Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar and several other senior leaders of the party were present.
Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan administered the oath to Revanth Reddy and other ministers as a packed LB Stadium in Hyderabad witnessed the ceremony. Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka was sworn in as deputy chief minister.
Besides them, N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Komatireddy Venkata Reddy, C. Damodar Raja Narasimha, D. Sridhar Babu, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, Konda Surekha, D. Anasuya (popularly known as Seethakka), Tummala Nageswara Rao and Jupally Krishna Rao took oath as ministers.
Congratulating the new government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Congratulations to Shri Revanth Reddy Garu on taking oath as the Chief Minister of Telangana. I assure all possible support to further the progress of the state and the welfare of its citizens.”
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy signed two files relating to new Abhaya Hastham Act, for implementing the six guarantees given by the Congress in the manifesto, and also another file providing job to dwarf woman Rajani.
While, in his brief speech, Revanth Reddy said that the barricades at Pragathi Bhavan, former CM’s official residence, were removed today and the government will hold a Praja Darbar on Friday at 10.30 at Pragathi Bhavan. He called upon the people to attend the Praja Darbar. Pragahi Bhavan will be named after Jyotirao Phule.
Meanwhile, Gaddam Prasad Kumar will be sworn in as Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly.
