Amid the ongoing counting of votes, the Election Commission of India has ordered the suspension of Telangana DGP Anjani Kumar for model code violation. The order comes hours after the Director General of Police Telangana along with Sanjay Jain, State Police Nodal Officer, Telangana and Mahesh Bhagwat, Nodal (Expenditure) met A Revanth Reddy, the front-runner for the CM’s post, in Hyderabad with a flower bouquet at the latter’s residence.
In Telangana, the Congress secured 64 of 119 seats, leaving 39 for BRS, 8 for BJP, 7 for MIM and 1 for CPI. Telangana becomes the second southern state in Congress’ kitty in 2023, after it emerged triumphant in Karnataka in May.
Meanwhile, Revanth Reddy has assured that the government will work to help the poor and take Telangana ahead on the path of development. Alleging that democratic values were undermined by the BRS government, the TPCC chief said the Congress will work to revive the same and will be at the forefront of protecting human rights.
“It is a people’s mandate. We need not (do) a postmortem. Everything goes well, then only you will get that magic number. The simple point is that they (people) wanted to change. They wanted to defeat KCR (CM Rao). They have defeated KCR. That’s all,” Reddy told reporters.
