According to data from the Commerce Ministry, India shipped smartphones worth US$ 4.67 billion in April-July of the current fiscal year, with the United States accounting for one-third of the shipments in value terms. Smartphone exports increased by 99.52% between (April-July) 2023-24, as compared to (April-July) 2022-23.
According to data from the Commerce Ministry, exports of smartphones to the United States during the first four months of the current fiscal year 2024 increased multifold to US$ 1.67 billion against US$ 284.6 million the previous year.
Following the implementation of the product-linked incentives (PLI) scheme by the Indian government and the entry of US-based iPhone producer Apple into local manufacturing, India has emerged as a major mobile phone production hub.
The United Arab Emirates came in second after the US with US$ 836.36 million, followed by the Netherlands (US$ 379.3 million), the United Kingdom (US$ 336.27 million), Italy (US$ 245.7 million), and the Czech Republic (US$ 230.25 million).
The total value of smartphones exported from India in fiscal year 2022–2023 was US$ 10.95 billion.
India shipped US$ 2.43 billion in smartphones in April-May of this fiscal year, spurred by a multifold increase in sales to the United States. According to the data from the Commerce Ministry, smartphone shipments to the United States increased multiple times to US$ 812.49 million in the first two months of the current fiscal year, as compared to US$ 92.2 million in April-May 2022-23. Exports of smartphones increased by 157.82% in April-May 2023-24 as compared to the same time last year.
