While delivering the last speech in old Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recalled the days when he first entered the building as a Member of the Parliament (MP). Modi shared the experiences and achievements made in the historic building during his speech on the 75 years of Parliament legacy.

“It is time to remember inspirational moments associated with this Parliament building before we move to new premises…This old Parliament building was built with sweat, hardwork and money of our countrymen,” said Modi. Though we move to a new building, the old building will always inspire the coming generations, he added.

“All of us are saying goodbye to this historic building. Before independence, this House was the place for the Imperial Legislative Council. After independence, this gained the identity of Parliament House. It is true that the decision to construct this building was taken by foreign rulers but we can never forget and can proudly say that the toil, the hard work and the money that went into the construction was that of my countrymen,” he said.

The achievements of all Indian are being discussed everywhere, he added.  The biggest achievement of 75 years of this House is ever-growing trust of the people in Parliament.

“This is the result of our united efforts during the 75 years of the history of our Parliament. The success of Chandrayaan-3 has not only made India but the world proud. This has highlighted a new form of India’s strength which is connected to technology, science, potential of our scientists and the strength of the 140 crore people in the country. Today, I again want to congratulate our scientists,” said Modi.

G20 Summit success is that of entire country, not of one person alone or one party, he said. Modi also recalled the key bills passed in the Parliament including Article 370, ‘One Rank One Pension’, and GST.

He remembered the contribution of former prime ministers including Jawaharlal Nehru, and Manmohan Singh. From Nehru to Shastri to Vajpayee, the Parliament has seen several leaders presenting their vision of India. “When this Parliament lost three serving PMs–Nehru ji, Shastri ji and Indira ji–they were given fitting tribute, said Modi. Speaking on the shift to new Parliament building, Modi said that we are fortunate to be part of a moment that links past with future.
